Obskene is a home and kitchen review site for people who are tired of buying the “best-selling” gadget only to watch it die in a drawer. We test the claims, read the fine print and tell you what’s actually worth your counter space.
So… why “Obskene”?
Because some products are obscenely good — the air fryer you use every single day, the mop that finally doesn’t leave streaks, the camp stove that lights on the first click. And some prices, promises and plastic hinges are obscene in the other sense. Our job is to tell the two apart, with a straight face and a little bit of attitude.
What lands on our bench
Air fryers, multicookers, smart ovens and pressure cookers. Mops, carpet cleaners, stick vacuums, scrubbers and dehumidifiers. Thermometers, tortilla presses and panini grills. Camp stoves and the gear that makes a weekend outside feel civilised. In short: the stuff that makes a home run — and the stuff that promises to, but doesn’t.
House rules
- Every review has a cons list.If we can’t find a single downside, we haven’t looked hard enough. Nothing is perfect, and pretending otherwise doesn’t help you.
- Real kitchens, real messes. We judge products on everyday use: weeknight dinners, muddy floors, cramped apartments and rainy campsites — not showroom conditions.
- Brands don’t get a vote.No manufacturer previews, edits or pays for a verdict. If a product ever arrives for free or a post is sponsored, we’ll say so up front.
- Respect your time.Key features, pros, cons and a price check sit at the top of every review. Skim in thirty seconds or read the whole story — your call.
How the money works
Obskene is free to read and supported by readers. Many of our links go to Amazon, and when you buy through them we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. That income pays for research and hosting; it never decides which products we recommend. The full details are in our Affiliate Disclaimer.
The person behind the bench
Obskene is run by Bruce Burkhart, a home cook and serial gadget-returner who got tired of five-star reviews that said nothing. Bruce started Obskene to write the reviews he always wanted to read: specific, practical and honest about the trade-offs.
